Matt
Wetherington
Founder, Attorney
Matt is a nationally recognized lawyer focused on high-stakes cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, and class actions.
Matt has successfully litigated cases in dozens of states and obtained record-setting verdicts throughout Georgia. Outside the courtroom, Matt works to empower others to make informed decisions about their health, safety, and financial well-being.
About Matt
Matt Wetherington takes on causes, not cases. He is very purposeful in the cases he accepts and seeks out ways to make the world a better place through the civil justice system. His efforts have led to new laws, regulations, and massive changes for many industries. In 2014, Matt was one of the youngest attorneys ever selected by the Daily Report as “On the Rise,” an annual list of forty attorneys who have made a difference and will continue to do so in the future. After a series of large verdicts, including one of the largest auto wreck verdicts in Georgia, Matt was inducted into the ALM Verdicts Hall of Fame at the age of thirty. Since then, Matt has been selected as a Super Lawyer Rising Star for six consecutive years in the categories of Personal Injury and Products Liability.A Track Record of Success
Matt takes the business of law seriously. That requires happy clients and happy referring lawyers. His firm is filled with attorneys and support staff who are proud of the work they do and are leaders to others. Every client receives a dedicated team of legal professionals and a clear explanation of what to expect in their case. This allows us to work collaboratively with our clients so that they understand what is happening and can make informed decisions at every step in the legal process. Our successes prove this process works. We have successfully litigated cases against some of the largest corporations in the world and beaten almost every insurance company in Georgia at trial.
A Culture of Giving Back
Matt is a first-generation college graduate from Climax, Georgia. He worked his way through Mercer University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts. Matt then attended Mercer’s Walter F. George School of Law on a tuition scholarship. Matt attributes these successes to the example set by his father and mentors. After losing his mother at thirteen, Matt watched his father juggle multiple jobs to support his family. Matt also received significant support from his teachers and community. Because of these experiences, Matt and his wife, Michele, are committed to causes that enable individuals and communities to reach their full potential.
Tire Safety Group
After representing a young man who needlessly died from injuries sustained in an accident caused by a defective tire, Matt founded the Tire Safety Group. The Tire Safety Group is a nonprofit with a mission of preventing wrecks caused by defective and poorly serviced tires through innovation and education. Matt personally created and maintains the largest database of recalled tires in the world that is searchable by tire DOT code. Through its website and free mobile apps, the Tire Safety Group has helped protect millions of drivers from dangerous tires.
Auto Accident Survivors of Georgia
Matt is the chairman of the Auto Accident Survivors of Georgia nonprofit. Matt’s former client, Kristen Rose, founded the organization to advocate for survivors of car accidents and provide resources to help accident victims maintain self-sufficiency financially, mentally, and physically.
Georgia Legal Accelerator
Matt is the co-founder of the Legal Accelerator Network and Georgia Legal Accelerator program. The non-profit provides an incubator environment for small firm lawyers of all practice disciplines. Through 1-on-1 mentoring, small group meetings, and CLE style presentations, program participants rapidly grow their business and become better contributors to the entire bar.
Roadtrip Nation
Through a partnership with PBS and State Farm Insurance, Matt served as a documentary subject in the television series Roadtrip Nation. In Roadtrip Nation Matt traveled coast to coast in a big green RV interviewing celebrities and community leaders about their day-to-day lives, the educational paths they took, and the hurdles they overcame along the way. Matt met with Weird Al Yankovic, Jamie Hyneman of the Discovery Channel’s “Myth Busters,” Dr. Francis Collins, author and former director of the Human Genome Project, Dr. Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org, comedian Margaret Cho, and many other career and community leaders along the way.
